Bishop Joseph E. Hogan, Sr. is the son of the late James Hogan and District Missionary Jeanette Lott Hogan-Mitchell. He received his early education in the Clayton County Public school system. He then matriculated through Morehouse College, Beulah Heights Bible College and graduated from Georgia Perimeter College. In 2017 Bishop Hogan also received an Honorary Doctorate from Saint Thomas Christian University. He is the Husband of Margaret Glass Hogan, and to their union, four children were born; three sons and one daughter. He served faithfully at the Valley View Church of God In Christ and preached his first sermon in 1975. Bishop Hogan was installed as the Pastor of Hargis Street Church of God In Christ in 1979.
The membership increased tremendously at Hargis Street Church of God In Christ and was the mechanism for the ministry’s search for a larger place of worship. Through his vision and innovative efforts, he relocated the ministry from a 250 seat sanctuary to a 33, 000 square feet edifice on 25 acres of prime Atlanta real estate. This effort expanded the seating capacity to 1,800, and the church was renamed New Life Tabernacle Church of God In Christ.
Bishop Hogan is a dynamic preacher and a prolific teacher in his own right. He birthed fifteen churches and mentored fourteen pastors along with two state supervisors. He served over 15 years as Superintendent of the New Life Fellowship District. Bishop Hogan served as an administrative assistant for the late Bishop J.D. Husband Jurisdictional Prelate and General Board Member, and the late Bishop C.D. Owens Jurisdictional Prelate, General Board Member and former Presiding Bishop of the Church Of God In Christ Inc. He served in National Leadership as, the national finance committee captain, the committee of standards and extensions, assistant secretary of the national program committee, and executed changes in the national program structure. He is currently the Jurisdictional Prelate of North Central Georgia Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of the Church Of God In Christ.
Bishop J.E. Hogan, Sr. is an astounding agent of vision. He is leading the congregation to a promise land. His plans for the continued development of the ministry include a new sanctuary, a complex with mixed residential and retail, a recreation/family center with a 1500 seat performing arts theater, and a gymnasium.
New Life Tabernacle is the source of creativity and outreach in the community. The ministry provides direct motivation to personal and social transformation. While his vision gathers up the community of faith across the ages, his Divine wisdom propels the ministry from conception to birth. Bishop Hogan teaches the members that the keys to success are, “Faithfulness and Kindness” and with these two elements you can achieve your purpose in God.
